
Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19, 1959)[2] is an American actress. Her appearances on screen and the stage have been a hallmark of her professional career, which spanned thirty years. Janney was nominated twice for Tony Awards and has been recognized with two Academy Award as well as the British Academy Film Award. Janney was born in Boston and grew up on the streets of Dayton (Ohio). Janney got a grant to education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after graduating from Kenyon College. Janney made her television debut in 1999 in the role of C. J. Cregg, a role she played on NBC's political drama The West Wing (2000-2006). She received 4 Primetime Emmy Awards for this part. For her portrayal of Margaret Scully, a Showtime actress in The period-based drama Masters of Sex, Janney was awarded an award in 2014 for the Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding guest actor in a drama Series. She was best known for her role as Bonnie Plunkett.
