Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S. She's been an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips with commentary that analyze gender representations in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit website that focuses on female representations in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. In her efforts to break down stereotypes related to women in popular culture, she also works to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and others online. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she's well-known and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the university. The determined lady had planned to create a web series examining gender-based representations in video games and found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. This attack didn't stop her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered her determination as feminist media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media journalist. She also serves as the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organization that explores pop culture depictions of women.
